1. Doors in the Window Tool

The separation of window and door tools creates problems for scheduling, visual accuracy and editing. In the real world doors and windows are usually part of the same unit, especially external openings.

We need to be able to define doors and door thresholds as part of window units, including bi-folding sliding doors.

2. Window schedule elevations

We need to be able to generate window schedules that fit on an A1 sheet and include dimensioned elevations of the windows/doors. Preferably all at the click of a button.

3. Sills

  1. Window Stools (or internal sills) need to be controlled separately from the external Window Sills as they are not typically related.
  2. PVC-U and Aluminium external sill options are needed as these are very common in Europe.
  3. Window Stools should be renamed Internal Sills in the international base version.

4. Control attributes of individual panes/panels

A common alternative to glazing in the Europe is polyester powdercoated insulated aluminium panels or opaque ceramic glazing.

  1. At the very least this means we need to be able to control the attributes of individual panes/panels, preferably by Class.
  2. Additionally it would be good if insulated panels were actually modelled as insulated panels, with a typical thickness of 25 mm.

5. Window panel types required

High priority:

  1. Fixed insulated panels, as item 4 above (as a substitute for glazing, direct into frame (i.e. sashless) or into sash).
  2. Frameless panels, (this is similar to a fixed insulation panel except that the window frame is hidden behind the panel, so all you see is a monolithic panel). We often use these to form spandrel panels between levels of a building where a window spans several levels.
  3. Louvre vents (for doors and windows)
Lower priority:
  1. Louvre windows
  2. Glass block

6. Sash operations required

Any serious BIM application needs to be able to model the following sash operating types.

High priority:

  1. Projecting side-hung (example) (hinged on friction stays at top and bottom of window for easy cleaning)
  2. Projecting top-hung
  3. Fully reversible (example)
Lower priority
  1. Sliding sashless (horizontal and vertical)
  2. The current “Fixed light” should be renamed “Fixed sash”.

7. Corner windows at both ends of window object

We need support for corner windows at both ends of a window to achieve things such as bay windows. 

8. Improvements to the lintel parameters

We need more control over the lintel parameters than there are at present. We need control over the overhang either side of the window reveal so that we can drawn brick header courses above windows and other decorative features.

    I would add that improvements to the lintel tool are needed to allow us to draw brick header courses. It would just require an additional dimension setting to be added to reduce the width of the lintel to 0 on either side of the window.
