1. Door schedule elevations

We need to be able to generate a live 2D front view representation of doors and we need to be able to dimension them with associative dimensions. We’d also like to be able to edit/override individual line-types and line-weights as you can with a viewport.

3. Bi-folding sliding doors

We need support for bi-folding sliding doors. There shouldn’t be any limit to the number of configurations (i.e. please don’t use a drop-down list of options, use a Custom Door Options graphical user interface instead perhaps).

4. Door ID Tags

We need more options for displaying ID tags. For instance to be able to display the fire-rating of a door (separately from the door ID). WinDoor has some good examples, see below. We also need support for superscript and subscript as some nationalities utilise these for fire-ratings.

5. Better control of complex door opening arrangements

We’d like to get rid of the “complex door” XOXOXO drop-down menu and replace it with something more akin to the Custom Sash Options interface in the Window Tool.

6. Meeting Stiles

The VW ‘astragal’ is not an astragal at all but rather a central fixed mullion within the door frame, which separates the two leaves of the door. The astragal fields under the Jamb tab of the Door Tool Settings should be renamed Fixed Mullion.

We need new fields added to the Leaf tab of the Door Tool Settings to deal with Meeting Stiles.

Double door meeting stiles have five common arrangements as illustrated below, which are square, rounded, rebated, astragal and T astragal. An astragal is a timber profile fixed to the secondary door leaf to act as a stop.

7. Door Types

Standard UK practice is to organise doors by type.

The definition of door types might vary on a project-by-project basis, but is essentially a grouping of doors with certain common parameters into a named door type for scheduling purposes and to simplify editing of multiple instances.

The parameters defined-by-type may be as limited as the size and style, or the type may specify a broader range of parameters, such as size, style, fire-rating, acoustic-rating, with only the remaining paramaters variable, such as frame depth and ironmongery package.

For door types to provide the required functionality within the VW Door Object, the user would need to be able to set which parameters are defined-by-type and which are defined-by-instance.

The use of symbols as a workaround for this functionality is not workable, as door numbering and scheduling are affected.

8. Worksheet terminology

All the localisation done in previous versions needs to be carried forward into automated worksheet schedules. For example:

  • door operation swing simple = single leaf
  • door leaf style solid = flush panel

9. Attribute control of hinge direction markers

We’d like to be able to control the attributes of hinge markers. So for instance we would like to be able to show a dotted line to indicate inward opening and a solid to indicate outward opening.

10. Support for defining gaps

We should be able to define a ‘Fitting Gap’ for the door leaf (gap between jamb and leaf), which is typically 1 to 3mm either side of the door and may include smoke seals or weather seals. If this gap is not supported then we have to make the shim gap or the casing the wrong size to compensate, which apart from being visually wrong also means we can’t schedule accurately.

For the same reasons we need to be able to define the gap between the door leaf and floor. As well as being able to define the shim gap to the top of the door separately from the sides, as this can often be different.

11. Frame Stops

The VW door object does not currently display a frame stop. In the UK these are either ‘planted’ or rebated from a larger frame section.
